Erik Satie

Erik Satie(1866-1925) a French composer, was born in Honfleur (Normandy). He studied at the School of Music in Paris and worked as a pianist in a cafe. Between 1880 and 1890 he composed many works for piano, among which stand out Gymnopédies (1888) and Gnossiennes (1890). He understood that his knowledge of counterpoint was not strong enough,so when he was 40 he decided to study with the French composer Vincent d'Indy, and Albert Roussel at the Schola Cantorum.
He returned to composition, mainly dealing with piano works, often well above with titles that seemed to have connection with surreal music, for example, Flasques préludes pour chien United Nations (1913), Burocratique Sonatine (1917) and three Morceaux en Forme of Poire (1903, for piano four hands) and they are really six pieces for piano.
He was against the lead character and complexity of the music of his time, and he was also an innovator in the use of certain harmonic resources, all these set the future trend of French music.
